In The Dramedy Web Series 'Guess I'm A Ghost' A Woman Dies And Returns As A Spirit To Make Amends To Those She's Wronged

“Is this hell, just looking at Facebook for eternity?” - Diane Egan

Guess I’m A Ghost is an 8-part dramedy web series about the life, death, and pre-afterlife of Diane Egan (Kelsey Siepser), a thirtysomething millennial.

While among the living, Diane wasn’t a great person. Self-absorbed, insecure, and selfish, she has a falling out with her best friend Courtney - during Courtney’s birthday celebration.

Diane dies that night when she leaves the party in a Uber and the car is involved in an accident.

Due to a bureaucratic snafu in the afterlife, Diane returns to earth as a ghost, intent on making amends to the people she has hurt the most.

Created and written by Chris Sullivan, Guess I’m A Ghost is a smart, astute comedy that deftly explores our visceral need to find connection with others.

Six of the eight episodes center on Diane “haunting” a person she has wronged:

  • Courtney (Caroline Bloom), her childhood friend she took for granted

  • Marc (Eugene Young), a one-time Tinder hookup who also happens to be Courtney’s ex

  • Dusty (Susan Shearer), her Uber driver on the night she died

Diane’s hauntings conclude with both her and the people she revisits making amends and gaining life-altering personal epiphanies.

While my description of the narrative may make the project sound saccharine in a Hallmark Channel movie-of-the-week way, Guess I’m A Ghost depicts relationships through a very grounded and naturalistic lens.

Sullivan has an almost uncanny ability to mine comedy from the awkwardness and vulnerability that arise from human interactions.

The writing - along with the exceptional and inclusive cast led by Siepser - makes Guess I’m A Ghost an affecting, uplifting comedy that affirms life in all its messiness and complexity.
