A Man Inherits A Vault Containing A Mind-Bending Secret In The Sci-Fi Short 'BOX 616'
It has become almost cliché to describe a science fiction project as similar to television anthology series like The Twilight Zone or Black Mirror, but in the case of the short film BOX 616, the descriptor is apropos.
Written and directed by Mitch Glass, BOX 616 tells the story of Malcolm (Nick Rua), a man who inherits a vast bank vault from his late grandfather.
With the assistance of the… peculiar bank manager (Gary Bristow), Malcolm takes possession of the vault and gains entry. What he discovers is a mind-bending secret from 70 years in the past that will have major implications on his life in the present.
BOX 616 works without needing to rely on overdone - or worse, poorly done - visual effects. It succeeds on the merits of its absorbing premise, tense atmosphere, and sterling production design.
In fact, the short was made for a minuscule budget of $800 and shot in an actual bank vault. Mitch Glass’ tight direction and the impressive production design combine to create a speculative narrative charged with mystery and intrigue.
