In The Provocative Sci-Fi Short 'HAPPY HUNTING' An Internet Streamer Hunts Colonists On a Distant World For Fame And Notoriety
Sci-fi short film HAPPY HUNTING reveals a distant future where the quest for internet fame and notoriety has evolved into a pursuit considered more valuable than human life.
Written and directed by filmmaker Jordan McAfee-Hahn, the short follows an internet streamer only known by his handle: @66Shadow (Damien Joseph Quinn).
@66Shadow has traveled to the planet of Proxima Centauri B in order to engage in a streamed hunting expedition to celebrate his 50-millionth subscriber - and to top the score of the most popular streamer known as @SgtSurge.
His prey?
Human colonists infected by a contagion produced by the flora native to the planet.
Accompanied by his sophisticated drone-camera, @66Shadow gleefully anticipates the hunt and celebrates each kill.
With its scathing indictment of modern cultural touchstones such as the rise of the internet-famous and social media “influencers,” our collective desensitization to depictions of violence, and the public’s obsession with reality television, HAPPY HUNTING succeeds in telling a deeply disturbing-yet-compelling sci-fi narrative with social commentary very resonant with the bizarre times we are currently navigating.

HAPPY HUNTING is an unsettling and provocative look at a distant future that, frankly, does not seem far-fetched when juxtaposed with our current reality.
