Award-Winning Fantasy Short 'REBOOTED' Is A Ingenious Tribute To Classic Hollywood Creature Features
What may be harder than a person becoming famous in Hollywood is a fading star attempting to re-ignite their career.
This is the case for the skeleton, Phil, a former stop motion animated star of the silver age of Hollywood. When Phil made his film debut, stop motion animation - pioneered by legendary animators like Ray Harryhausen - was considered cutting-edge visual effects.
But that was long ago. Now, Phil is having to hustle to find work in the modern cinematic era with its movie monsters created by CGI and motion capture technology.
REBOOTED, written and directed by Australian filmmaker Michael Shanks, is not only a marvelous and bittersweet love letter to iconic creature features of old Hollywood, but also to the old school effects techniques used to bring those creatures to life, including hand-drawn 2D animation, rubber and latex costuming, and animatronics.

REBOOTED is a whimsical and nostalgic nod back to the Hollywood heyday when films such as Creature From The Black Lagoon, Jason And The Argonauts, and Clash Of The Titans (1981) headlined cinema marquees (There is also a cool tip-of-the-hat to Terminator 2: Judgment Day for eagle-eyed viewers!).
If you love classic creature feature cinema and the magic responsible for bringing those films to life, REBOOTED is a wonderful tribute not to be missed.
